The Ohio Board of Regents’ CIO Advisory Board Members in collaboration with VMware has recently sponsored a “VDPilot project” in VMLab, which is a feasibility study of a VDC for classroom labs. The study leverages universities’ pre-existing high-speed access to the OARnet network and to national networks such as Internet2 and NLR in order to:
(i) assess the user QoE of accessing desktops remotely compared to physically going to a computing lab, and
(ii) analyze the challenges and cost savings due to shared resources amongst collaborating institutions. More
